PENNSYLVANIA AGGREGATES AND CONCRETE ASSOCIATION WELCOMES SUSAN ARMSTRONG IN NEWLY CREATED ROLE

The Pennsylvania Aggregates and Concrete Association (PACA) is pleased to announce Susan Armstrong has joined the association in a newly formed role as the director of specifications and sustainability.

“The board of directors and staff are excited to have Susan on board,” said Pennsylvania Aggregates and Concrete Association board chairperson Jeff Detwiler from New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. “With her professional experience and knowledge of the association, we have no doubt she will excel in helping to move the crushed stone, ready mixed concrete, sand and gravel, and cement industries forward.”

In this role, Armstrong will be responsible for improving the residential and commercial market for aggregates, ready mixed concrete, and cement by educating and building relationships with specifiers, owners, developers, and contractors by reducing roadblocks created by inefficient and outdated or improper specifications and codes.

Armstrong comes to PACA from the Central Builders Supply Company, where she most recently served as the company’s treasurer. She also worked as an adjunct professor in concrete science technology at Pennsylvania College of Technology while serving on the PACA board of directors, as the concrete technical community chair and representative on the FHWA-PennDOT State Transportation Innovation Council (STIC).

Armstrong received her bachelor’s degree from Bloomsburg University in business administration/accounting and a master’s in business management from Bucknell University.

PACA to Partner With NRMCA on Think Like an Owner Course

PACA will be partner with this National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA) to host the national association's Think Like an Owner course.

This course for the ready mixed concrete industry teaches its participants about financial management and performance of successful ready mix operations. The course was developed based on insights gleaned from NRMCA’s annual Performance Benchmarking Survey and intended to give participants an overview of the industry, focusing on identifying and addressing the factors that are causing the ready mix industry to see poor returns and deteriorating results in a strong market.

The course examines elements of successful firms and teaches participants how to manage profitable operations – from reading and understanding financial statements to thinking in terms of economic profit. This course is a must-attend for plant managers to company presidents who want to run their operations profitably. Participants can expect hands-on exercises and in-class quizzes.

While the course primarily focuses on the ready mix industry, aggregate members also benefit from participating.

The course will be held in Harrisburg on July 19-20, 2023. More information and the link to register is available here - https://www.nrmca.org/course/t...
