PACA Joins Coalition Advocating for a Balanced and Fair Low-Carbon Hydrogen Economy

PACA was a signatory in an industry coalition letter to Sen. Casey and Sen. Fetterman asking them to advocate with the Biden Administration and U.S. Department of Treasury to treat hydrogen produced from natural gas fairly and recognize the role the oil and gas industry must play in the low-carbon hydrogen economy. Advancing alternative energy sources like hydrogen can help secure America’s energy future.

UCC Building Code Public Hearings - Members Make Their Voice Heard

Thank you to the following members and staff for providing testimony on February 1, 2024, at the first of three public hearings for The Uniform Construction Code Review and Advisory Council (RAC) regarding the proposed changes to the Pennsylvania Building Code. Two amendments are of great importance to our industry:

1. Requiring those inspecting and testing concrete to be certified and providing a table of minimum certifications for inspectors and technicians.
2. Requiring the testing agency to provide copies of testing reports to the concrete producer when they're issued to their client.

Increasing Social Media Presence

Specifyconcrete.org website is a treasure trove of information that gets overlooked many times, and it is high time we showcase this fountain of information! Each month, a project will be showcased with a brief summary, and a link to the case study on the website. While there are several projects for ICF’s, Roller Compacted Concrete, Decorative Concrete and Tilt-up construction, we need case studies for Flowable Fill and Full Depth Reclamation. If your company has done one of these projects, and would like to be showcased, please contact [email protected] or [email protected].

eLearning Has Launched!

PACA has launched its new eLearning Center to provide continuing education to the design and specifying communities. This is a wonderful opportunity to engage and develop relationships with the design community or the contractor base in your market area by providing an opportunity to earn CEU/PDH’s. The cost of a “key” is $20.00 per individual and is not transferable.

Our first course, on a very timely topic is “Type IL Cement: The New Cement on the Block.” This course introduces the specifier/designer to Type IL cement, what it is and how it influences the properties of concrete, both in the plastic and hardened states. Upon successful completion 0.5 CEU/PDH will be awarded. Market Engagement Regional Meetings

PACA's “Kick Off” Regional meetings were held in the month of January, and a special thank you to Heidelberg Materials, Pennsy Supply and New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company for hosting. The objective of the Market Engagement Community is to be the primary resource for the design and specifying communities. Member engagement is essential in building the necessary relationships with our external stakeholders. Each region will help with the creation of a specifier database and continue to submit concrete specifications that refer to outdated standards or specifications. Also, the Education sub-committee will help with the development of upcoming eLearning courses.
