Every three years the International Code Council (ICC) publishes new building codes based on their national review and approval process. These are the building codes that govern construction across the United States and in many parts of the world. Before these revised codes are adopted in Pennsylvania, they will be reviewed by the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code Review and Advisory Council, the RAC. To assist the RAC in this process 10 technical advisory committees (TACs) are formed during each code cycle. Their purpose is to review changes specific to each of the model codes, and to make recommendation to the RAC prior to adoption. Membership in these TACs is open to individuals who can assist in this important process.
This is an excellent opportunity for those in our industry to begin to get involved in this important process in a manner that is not overly time consuming. The TACs will have several brief virtual meetings to review only the sections revised by the ICC and those very few suggestions for changes received from the public. (PACA has submitted 2 suggested changes to the IBC).
As the building codes effects everything that is built in our facilities and with our materials the input from our highly skilled craftsman that keep our industry going, and the input from our design professionals is needed and valued at this step in this process. During the last code cycle there were way too many empty seats on the TACs.
