Continuing May Mental Health Awareness Month - Resources Provided By Fisher Phillips

PACA wishes to thank our member company Fisher Phillips for helping us provide much-needed resources to our full membership this month, Mental Health Awareness Month.

Sadly, there are those that do not have the opportunity to receive the resources and help they need - ironically and unfortunately - what occurred earlier this week in Texas is an example of this. Our hearts and prayers go out to those affected by this tragedy.

This month's Members Forum meeting featured a presentation by Fisher Phillips on mental health issues and how the industry can help their employees deal with personal issues. The recording for this valuable presentation is available HERE.

Along with the infographic shown, Fisher Phillips has also compiled a very comprehensive list of resources available to help those in need of mental health help available HERE.

We urge those who need help or who know someone who may need help, to reach out and seek assistance. And, we thank Fisher Phillips for all they done this month to provide this critical information.

More than 1500 Pennsylvania Finishers Complete Their Certifications

Congratulations to all finishers who have completed the NRMCA or ACI certification programs!! They now meet the requirements for PennDOT projects let after April of 2022.

1368 Pennsylvania finishers have attended the NRMCA Exterior Flatwork Finishers Certification Course and have received their lifetime certification. PACA has conducted 77 of these certification classes across Pennsylvania.

Since January 1^st of 2022, PACA held 49 NRMCA classes during which 785 finishers received their certifications.

Additionally, there are 179 Pennsylvania finishers who currently hold the ACI finisher certification.

The NRMCA program has proven to be a way in which PACA can bring valuable education to the customers of our members.

The success of this program is due to the PACA member companies who have hosted an NRMCA class and made the choice to bring this important training opportunity to their customers and company personnel. Our gratitude to:

DEP Environmental Justice

In response to DEP publishing their draft Environmental Justice Policy for public comment, PACA submitted comments on May 11, 2022.

DEP had received approximately 1,300 comments on this proposed policy, the vast majority of which were green industry form letters.

PA DEP Secretary Patrick McDonnell

Gov. Wolf announced on May 29, 2022 that DEP Secretary Patrick McDonnell will be departing the Wolf Administration as Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection, effective July 2. No mention of where he is going.

Ramez Ziadeh, currently the Executive Deputy Secretary, has been named Acting Secretary.

PA DEP Mining GP-103 Short Term Construction Permit

The DEP Bureau of Mining Programs is requesting your input on the usage and potential changes related to their GP-103 Short Term Construction Permit.

If you use this permit and would like to see changes to it, please give Josie Gaskey a call as soon as you can. This is a link to a general purpose document for this permit usage.

The Latest on the PACA Summer Summit

Balancing fiscal responsibility and building a successful event is a game that association executives in all industries and facets have to play. If you've never heard the phrase "attrition liability" you've never had to be a part of this game. Be glad! It's not easy.

We still await word from the Hyatt Chesapeake Bay on other groups in house, their room blocks and what may be available for those on our sleeping room waiting list. We have our fingers crossed that we are able to accommodate all and bring us all together again this summer.

The great news is, we have 183 attendees currently registered to attend this year's Summer Summit in Cambridge. We look forward to seeing you all there and hope that we are able to grow that number with available rooms. Stay tuned!

New Case Study, Blogs, Video Added to SpecifyConcrete

We recently added a new case study to SpecifyConcrete. Titled "ICFs - Keeping This Mixed-Use Development Green" this new item highlights the use of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) on Byler Holdings North Cornwall Commons apartment project.

There are also several new blog articles post on our blog page. The articles are interesting and well written.

Lastly, we have added a new video "The Dos and Don'ts of Concrete Testing" to the site as well.

OSHA Heat Initiative

In October 2021, OSHA published an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for Heat Injury and Illness Prevention in Outdoor and Indoor Work Settings.

In April 2022, OSHA launched a National Emphasis Program for this same topic.

On May 24th, Adele Abrams presented a webinar on this important topic. Her presentation can be found below and a recording can be heard here.
